On May 22, 2024, Dr. Samuel Galle led a roundtable discussion for hand therapists at the offices of Proliance Hand, Wrist and Elbow Physicians in Kirkland, Washington. The topic of the night was thumb metacarpalphalangeal joint ulnar collateral ligament injuries and repair techniques involving multiple points of fixation for early rehabilitation.
During the discussion, Dr. Galle highlighted several case examples of professional athletes including Mike Trout of Major League Baseball and Drew Brees of the National Football League. These patients were treated by Dr. Steven Shin of the Cedar Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute and underwent surgery to repair this very important thumb ligament. A great case discussion was had and future areas of research focus were highlighted to make sure all patients are receiving the best care possible.
Dr. Galle wrote another article about thumb ligament injuries here.
